Winter blues got you down? Reinvigorate your space and go green! The color green symbolizes rebirth, nature, prosperity, and freshness. According to Sensational Color, several physiological changes take place in the body when in the presence of the color green. The pituitary gland is stimulated, muscles become more relaxed, and blood histamine levels increase leading to a decrease in allergy symptoms and dilated blood vessels, aiding in smoother muscle contractions. Green is calming and stress-relieving, yet completely invigorating.
The easiest way to incorporate more greenery into your space is with house plants. For my “black thumb Bettys,” try a Spider Fern, Snake Plant, Cast-Iron Plant, or Dracaena for a low-maintenance, no-fail house plant. Still weary of that black thumb? Decorate your space with green-glass candles, such as Charleston’s own Rewined Candles, or top off your coffee table with a book boasting green foliage.
Looking for a bolder, more committed option? Paint the walls or a ceiling a soft subtle green such as Sherwin-Williams Ancient Marble or try the rich, velvety evergreen of Sherwin-Williams Oakmoss. Wallpaper has come a long way since our momma’s day. Add a 3/4 beadboard or shiplap to the base of your half bath and finish with a patterned green wallpaper for the top quarter of the wall; pair with bronze or gold accents to make a big statement in a small space. Mercury Mosaics designs and creates stunning handmade tile in a variety of shades and patterns. I’m digging their softer matte green Patina 2”X6” Subway Tile, their rich Vermont Pine Large Hexagon Tile, and their deep sea blue-green 2”X6” Herringbone Tile. Green is in and you can easily find both inexpensive and more pricey options for sofas. loveseats, wingback chairs, and office chairs in shades of emerald, olive, and chartreuse.
Enjoy embracing the green this Spring!
